Take a free, untimed South Carolina DMV practice test in the real exam format: 25 questions, 20 correct to pass. Fresh random questions every attempt.
The South Carolina knowledge test is a single 25-question exam covering road signs and the rules of the road together. You need 20 correct (80%) to pass.
Answer: Whoever arrives first
At an uncontrolled intersection, the vehicle that arrives first generally has the right-of-way.
Right-of-Way
Answer: Yes, unless a sign specifically prohibits it
Right turns on red are permitted in South Carolina unless a sign at that intersection specifically prohibits it.

Drivers age 15-16 receive a warning letter at 2 and/or 4 accumulated points.
SCDMV Points

Questions and exam format researched against South Carolina's official driver handbook and state sources. Last verified 20 August 2026.
South Carolina Driver's Manual (SCDMV, Revised 06/2024 edition, PDF fetched directly from dmv.sc.gov; the old scdmvonline.com domain now 301-redirects to dmv.sc.gov), researched and verified 2026-08-19, re-verified 2026-08-20 directly against the manual's full extracted text (not just search results). Unified exam format is structurally confirmed — the manual's own "Section 12: Test Your Knowledge" sample test interleaves sign-recognition and rules-of-the-road questions with no separate sign-only section — but the real exam's exact question count and passing percentage are genuinely NOT published anywhere in the manual (confirmed again this session by reading the manual's Section 2 "Where to Take Tests" and Section 12 in full; only a 10-question, non-representative sample quiz is included, not the real test's format). This module uses { signCount: 0, signPassCount: 0, ruleCount: 25, rulePassPct: 0.8 } as a clearly-flagged ESTIMATE (25 questions, 80% passing), not a confirmed SCDMV figure; re-verify against an official source before treating it as authoritative. Fixed this session: r79 previously tested whether the manual documents an exact bicycle-passing distance (a meta-question about the document itself, not a driving fact) — independently confirmed via a direct search of SC Code Title 56 Chapter 5 that no statutory bicycle-passing-distance figure exists either (the manual's qualitative "slow down and allow as much space as possible" guidance is the actual, complete rule), so r79 was replaced with a real, sourced fact about South Carolina's slow-moving-vehicle emblem (manual: "A fluorescent or reflective orange and red triangle displayed on the rear of a vehicle... means the vehicle is traveling less than 25 mph"), a genuine road fact that was previously missing from this file's sharing category. Known gaps deliberately excluded from content rather than invented: SC's reckless-driving statutory definition; any work-zone speed-penalty dollar figure; a left-turn-on-red rule; a red-arrow signal rule; the standard adult 0.08% BAC threshold (not directly located in the manual text, though widely used nationally); exact point values for individual violations (a source table was unavailable); specific foot-distances for parking near fire hydrants, crosswalks, stop signs, or railroad crossings; a numeric bicycle-passing-distance requirement (confirmed absent from both the manual and Title 56 Chapter 5); and a headlights-with-wipers rule. Re-verify periodically, as SCDMV handbook content, fees, and thresholds change over time.
